My Pixilation animation attempt

This is my first attempt at a pixilation animation, in dedication to Ray Charles is 50th anniversary. The image quality isn't great, as there was a problem with the filter over the flash which meant the images appeared darker then I wanted.

Pixilation Animation Research

This is a great example of a pixilation animation used very well in Regina Spektor's music video for her song 'us'. The video shows a low budget pixilation with limited props can be put together professionally to make a great music video.

Life Drawing session

In this life drawing session we used spot lights to change the way that the light hit the body. The light positioning meant that the shadows contoured the body in different ways. The model also rotated so we had to draw from different angles.I am pleased with the results however not a lot the detailing has appeared on the photos, so I may try and scan the pictures in to add definition.

Cut out animation research

This is an absolutely excellent example of cut out animation, used to promote travel with United airlines. The style of which the story is told and the detail in the design of the characters is where I am taking some of my inspiration from with my next task. The brief was to design and create a cut out animation based on a fairytale, myth or legend. I am choosing to base my cut out animation on Dinas Emrys, the story of the two dragons. For many of you that don't know the story, there is a reason why Wales has a red dragon on the flag. Stay tuned for if you want to hear the story, cut out animation will be uploaded soon

Ray Charles

As i am basing my pixilation on Ray Charles and have been listening to his music pretty much constantly throughout this week I thought it was only fitting that I sketched the man himself. I used felt pen for majority of the outlining and fine liner for additional detail. I had some left over graphite from the mural and so to use it up and as I had soo much fun with it last time I thought I would use the rest to add some additional tone to his face. It still needs some more smudging and I know that the shading is totally wrong but I like the effect it has on the over all piece.

Sound Workshop

This clip is from the stop motion Cannis, we took out the sound and re recorded everything to show how a change in sound can alter the way in which you perceive the film. In our case we tried to over exaggerate the sounds to give it a more comic effect, taking away the dark and solum atmosphere. Creditations: Chloe Longden, Alex Patterson and Faye Mclellan

When did Mickey Mouse first appear, and what was the name of the film/tv program?

  1. Mickey's story starts with a rabbit. Disney Brothers Studio was just another cog in Universal Pictures' animation machine when, in 1927, Walt Disney created a character called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
  2. (The character was later re visited and appointed a new name that would stick with the character for the rest of its career, a name that is now recognised around the world and make this rabbit the most famous animated character ever made)
  3. The first two Mickey shorts drew no attention, but then came Steamboat Willie, the first animation to feature synchronized music and sound effects, hit the screen. The film premiered in New York on Nov. 18, 1928 and was an instant hit. A series of Mickey Mouse shorts appeared within a matter of months — including Plane Crazy, a short that predated Steamboat Willie in which Mickey plays a rodent Charles Lindbergh. The mouse was a national fad by the end of the year, and it wasn't long before the real genius of Walt Disney kicked in: marketing. Walt quickly started up a line of Mickey merchandise, and within two years the Mickey Mouse Club, a fan club for children, was up and running.

Time Lapse

Its taken a couple of days but its officially complete. There are a lot of shots that I didn't have time to finish and add to the completed film, and there are also some mistakes that meant the camera didn't quite pick up as much detail in the light as I wanted. However as a first attempt goes I am pleased with the results. The piece of music to accompany it is soft and doesn't take anything away from the images, I think they work quite well together in that respect. I also added in a count down before the film started, I'm not sure what you all make of it however I felt that it got me in the zone of the movie before it had even started. Feedback is much appreciated and I definitely take all comments on board. (Special thanks to Alex, wouldn't have been able to make it without the camera and tripod) Creditation: Alex Patterson
